MARK ELLIS
Chief Executive Officer / Chief Investment Officer
Mark is the lead Portfolio Manager of the Nutshell Growth Fund. Mark founded Nutshell Asset Management in 2019. He has a 25+ year history in trading and investing for a number of leading financial institutions, including NatWest Markets, Citibank and Symmetry Investments.
As well as a Degree in Economics from LSE, Mark has an MSc (Distinction) in Finance from Cass Business School, where his dissertation on Momentum Trading was subsequently published in the Journal of Asset Management.
LORD MICHAEL SPENCER
Chairman
Michael Spencer is one of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs. He was educated at Oxford University and began his City career in 1976 at Simon and Coates. He later founded Intercapital (ICAP), which entered the FTSE 100 in 2006. Following the 2016 sale of ICAP's global hybrid voice broking business to Tullett Prebon, the remaining ICAP businesses became NEX Group, a technology-driven financial services company where Michael served as CEO. NEX was acquired by CME Group in 2018, with Michael joining its board until 2020.
He now chairs IPGL, investing in early-stage companies, and holds roles at Bordeaux Index and the Centre for Policy Studies. Michael was nominated for a life peerage in the 2020 Political Honours list and was created Baron Spencer of Alresford in 2020.
DUNCAN HARVEY
Chief Operating Officer / Deputy Portfolio Manager
Duncan has been in the financial industry for over 25 years. Since graduating from Loughborough University with a Degree in Banking and Finance, he has worked at State Street, Mellon Trust and Morgan Stanley. Most recently, Duncan has been a Portfolio Manager at Rogge Global Partners and Allianz Global Investors. Duncan is a CFA charterholder.
STEPHEN HUTT
Senior Analyst
Stephen is an experienced analyst and strategist who has worked in the investment banking and asset management industry for over 25 years. He has worked with numerous top tier investment banks including Morgan Stanley, Jefferies, RBC Capital Markets, ABN Amro & Natwest Markets. Most recently he was Head of Quantitative Strategy at an asset manager in Mayfair. Stephen brings valuable experience and insight to the Nutshell investment team.
Advisory Board
STEVE BRAWN
Steve has been in investment banking and wealth management since 1987 having started his career at Samuel Montagu, trading derivatives at the Bank of Nova Scotia, and Sanwa International.
He is a Director of a large private FX/payments firm and via his consulting boutique, successfully built fund of hedge fund portfolios. He has also appeared as an expert witness in court. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Physics from London University and an MSc in Management Science from Cranfield where he was an honours student.
